Maintenance Technician – Tool & Die (3rd Shift)

Location: Madison, WI
Schedule: Sunday–Thursday | 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM
Employment Type: Full-Time | On-Site


Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician with a focus in Tool & Die to support tooling, dies, and press equipment within a manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and improving tooling used in production, while ensuring equipment runs efficiently and meets quality standards.

This is a great opportunity for someone with hands-on machining and tooling experience who enjoys precision work, problem-solving, and continuing to develop their technical skillset.


Compensation & Benefits

  • Sign-On Bonus: $3,500

    • Paid in two installments (upon start and after 6 months)

  • Base Pay: $28.09 – $29.34/hour

  • Shift Premium: $2.00/hour (3rd shift)

Additional Earning Opportunities:

  • Course Pay: $0.50/hour increase per completed class (up to 11 classes)

  • Graduation Pay: $1.75/hour increase after completing required coursework

  • Tenure Pay: $0.75/hour increase annually (up to 3 years)


Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair tooling including draw dies, progressive dies, and blanking dies

  • Perform sharpening, fitting, and adjustment of punches and dies

  • Build and modify shim sets and tooling components as needed

  • Support press operations by ensuring tooling is functioning properly and meeting production standards

  • Assist in developing and maintaining fixtures used in assembly and quality processes

  • Work closely with engineers and toolmakers to improve tooling performance and reliability

  • Operate and utilize equipment such as CNC mills, lathes, and surface grinders

  • Interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications to support tooling work

  • Apply proper machining practices including feeds, speeds, and material considerations

  • Maintain compliance with all safety procedures including Lockout/Tagout and hazard communication

  • Document work and support continuous improvement initiatives


Qualifications

Required:

  • Hands-on experience with tooling such as progressive dies, draw dies, or blanking dies

  • Experience in machining operations including milling, turning (lathe), and surface grinding

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings

  • Understanding of cutting speeds, feeds, and material properties (metallurgy basics)

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail

  • Experience with safety standards including LOTO and hazard communication

  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office or similar)

Preferred:

  • 2+ years of machine shop or tool & die experience (or related trade school training)

  • Familiarity with CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar)


Training & Development

  • Completion of 5 company-paid technical courses is required

  • Additional coursework is available to support continued pay increases and skill advancement
