Maintenance Technician – Tool & Die (3rd Shift)

Location: Madison, WI
Shift: 3rd Shift | Sunday–Thursday | 10:00pm – 6:00am
Employment Type: Full-Time

$3,500 Sign-On Bonus

We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established manufacturing organization seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician – Tool & Die to support tooling, dies, and press equipment on 3rd shift.

This role is ideal for a technically strong machinist or tool & die professional with experience in die maintenance, machining, and precision tool work who is looking for long-term growth and structured skill development.


Compensation

  • Base Pay: $28.09 – $29.34 per hour

  • Shift Premium: $2.00 per hour

  • $3,500 Sign-On Bonus

    • Half paid upon start

    • Half paid after 6 months of employment

  • Course Pay: $0.50 increase per completed class (11 classes available)

  • Graduation Pay: $1.75 per hour upon completion of 5 required courses

  • Tenure Pay: $0.75 per hour for each year of service (up to 3 years)

    • In rare cases, experienced technicians may receive tenure credit at hire

Significant earning growth is available through coursework and tenure progression.


Position Overview

The Maintenance Technician – Tool & Die assists in maintaining tooling and press equipment to ensure optimal manufacturing performance. This role works closely with Tooling Engineers and Toolmakers to maintain and improve dies and fixtures.


Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair tooling and press equipment

  • Service draw dies, progressive dies, and blanking dies

  • Sharpen tooling and manufacture shim sets for punches and dies

  • Develop and maintain fixtures for Assembly and Quality departments

  • Operate and maintain CNC mills, surface grinders, and related machining equipment

  • Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings

  • Apply proper feeds, speeds, grinding techniques, and machining best practices

  • Follow all safety standards including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)

  • Collaborate with engineering and tooling teams to improve processes


Qualifications

Required

  • Knowledge of draw dies, progressive dies, and blanking dies

  • Experience with CNC mills, surface grinders, and machining methods

  • Technical knowledge in:

    • Sawing

    • Lathe operation

    • Milling

    • Surface grinding

    • Blueprint reading

    • Metallurgy

    • Die making

    • Cutting feeds and speeds for machine tools

  • Training or experience in Hazard Communication, MSDS, and Lockout/Tagout

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Windows-based systems)

  • Ability to pass a written Tool & Die maintenance examination (70% or higher)

  • Willingness to complete five required company-paid maintenance courses

Preferred

  • Minimum two years of machine shop experience or related trade school degree

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, SolidWorks, DWG, or similar drawing software
