Position Overview
A well-established and growing real estate organization is seeking an experienced Compliance Manager to oversee regulatory compliance functions across a diverse portfolio of affordable and subsidized housing communities. This leadership role works cross-functionally with operations, finance, and site-level teams to ensure adherence to federal, state, and local housing program requirements while supporting overall property performance.
The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of affordable housing regulations, a proactive approach to risk management, and the ability to translate complex requirements into practical, operational processes.
Primary Responsibilities
- Oversee daily compliance operations across a multi-site housing portfolio.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and support to compliance personnel.
- Develop, implement, and maintain internal policies and procedures aligned with regulatory standards.
- Offer ongoing guidance and training to property teams regarding compliance expectations and program updates.
- Monitor adherence to applicable affordable housing regulations and program guidelines.
- Conduct periodic internal file audits and coordinate corrective action plans as needed.
- Prepare, review, and submit required regulatory reports and certifications in a timely manner.
- Serve as a point of contact for external auditors and regulatory agencies.
- Communicate audit outcomes and collaborate with operational leadership to resolve findings.
- Oversee applicant eligibility determinations and screening processes.
- Ensure accurate processing of rental assistance documentation where applicable.
- Maintain current knowledge of Fair Housing laws and ensure consistent implementation across communities.
- Track recertification deadlines and ensure timely completion.
- Respond to compliance notices and implement remediation strategies.
- Facilitate internal compliance education initiatives.
- Participate in professional development and industry training to remain current on evolving regulations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned in support of departmental goals.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of five years of compliance experience within affordable housing, property management, or a related regulatory environment.
- Industry-recognized compliance certifications preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of affordable housing programs and Fair Housing requirements.
- Ability to interpret complex regulatory language and apply it operationally.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and analytical abilities with attention to detail.
- Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience.
- Working familiarity with property management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience preferred.

- Ability and willingness to travel periodically between assigned properties.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
- Comfortable working in both office and property environments.
- Ability to perform standard office-related physical tasks.
